Environment | Fishing Rights | Conservation

Tribal nations have stewarded the natural resources of their traditional territories since time immemorial.  Today, these natural resources, which are often integral to tribal culture, are threatened by climate change, development, and pollution. Drummond Woodsum’s attorneys have extensive experience representing Tribal Nations on matters involving natural resource protection and management. We have substantial expertise in using environmental laws to safeguard our clients’ natural and cultural resources. We also work to ensure that federal and state actors respect the fishing, hunting, and gathering rights of Tribal Nations. Finally, our attorneys have advised Tribal Nations on legal issues related to natural resource management projects, such as solar development and timber harvesting.

Our interest in conservation and the land goes far beyond practicing law. We have attorneys who have climbed each of New England’s 67 4,000-foot peaks; participated in multi-day canoe trips with tribal youth programs; completed a 2,200-mile through-hike of the Appalachian Trail; completed a year-long camping tour of our national and state parks; and traveled to Mongolia to help local herdsmen establish clean water as a human right. Our attorneys also volunteer countless hours of their own time as board members of local, state, and national land trusts and conservation organizations.
